What we do
In late summer 2015, the refugee situation became increasingly serious. In view of this, the University of Graz introduced a first package of immediate measures in mid September 2015 in order to provide access to education and to support the integration of asylum seekers and recognised refugees. The focus of the initiatives for recognised refugees and asylum seekers wanting to enrol at the University of Graz lay on simplified admission procedure and German language courses as well as counselling service.
Since then, several educational opportunities have been developed based on appearing demands, with the aim of facilitating long-term support for refugees and asylum seekers in integrating in Austria. Experts from various different areas such as intercultural communication, mediation and German as a foreign and second language have been working together to design concepts to encourage language acquisition, learning and integration.
Currently, there are less specific enquiries at the University of Graz. That's why the measures of the year 2015 have been gradually integrated into the university's regular education offer. Individual requires can, of course, always be directed at refugees(at)uni-graz.at.
This website is now primarily meant to be a documentation of 2015's measures (status of April 2019).
